Natural Shampoo Ingredients Secrets
There are a lot of reasons why you might select a natural shampoo. People like to use shampoos that they feel are “green.” Others find that natural ingredients lead to healthier hair. Others still have found that natural shampoo is easier on dyed hair. Also people prefer to use natural body washes and natural shampoos.
Of course some companies use the word natural in a deceptive way. Sometimes it can just mean natural ingredients. When you see the words natural ingredients they refer to just about anything derived from nature. As a result the shampoo can contain a few natural ingredients and a lot of unnatural ones. Generally a few preservatives or dyes can be okay. Sensitive skin though can have a bit more trouble when it comes to colors and fragrances. Serious problem ingredients often undo the benefits of natural ingredients.
Always keep an eye out for laureth sulfate. This is what creates shampoo foam. However, it also will strip your hair. This will leave locks brittle and weak. Also, it will destroy color treatments. Generally, excessive lauryl sulfate in shampoo will result in lightening and dulling effects. When you are checking ingredients avoid anything with the words lauryl or laureth.
Always also look out for sulfides and sulfur. These are quite common in dandruff shampoos. You could argue that sulfur is natural. But in some cases it can actually cause dandruff. Sulfur based shampoos must be kept out of your eyes. You might also get hair that is drier than usual.
Truly natural shampoos have a few common characteristics:
* They do not tend to have many ingredients - The majority of ingredients in shampoos are artificial. Most natural shampoo products just contain a soap base and minimal other ingredients.
* You do not get much foam with natural shampoos - This is because they lack the foaming agents we discussed earlier.
* They may contain ingredients that you would see in your kitchen - You might see items like apple cider vinegar, herbs and even baking soda. Some people actually just use baking soda and vinegar to wash their hair.
If your hair is perfect and you love your shampoo, stick with it. However, if you are looking for a new natural shampoo, make sure that you are getting the real deal. These secret ingredients can cause frizziness, dry hair, breakage and serious damage. Always be sure that your natural shampoo is the real deal before you start washing your hair.
